Ramies

Ramies, a small family business based in Shanghai, make these lovely linen dresses to order - you send them your measurements, and what colour you'd like, and they are made for you, bespoke. The top dress can be worn with the buttons at the front or the back (I've ordered it in heather grey), and is just £44. The romantic dropped-waist dress is £51. Pictures: Ramies.

Denim smocks

Two denim smock dresses I have my eye on - both have the strong selling point that they would comfortably make way for lunch. The top dress is £129, by Ganni at Plumo; the second is £155, by APC Madras at Urban Outfitters.

Ganni

I always find so much to love at Ganni. I just tried on this new-season dress in Anthropologie (although I see it's £40 cheaper at ASOS) and can confirm it ticks every good-dress box. Really lovely. Picture: ASOS.
UPDATE: A reader has pointed out that the dress has been removed from the ASOS site. It's still available at Anthropologie, Regent Street (London) - though not online.

Ace & Jig

I really, really want this dress, but it's about £125, plus shipping from Atlanta, plus customs charges. Expensive, then. Damn you, weak pound. Picture: Les Nouvelles.

Up The Wooden Hills

Up The Wooden Hills is a little label from Gothenburg that - like most things from Sweden - I am a little bit in love with. This summer, they've just made one dress - knee-length, with deep pockets and nice sleeves you can roll up, in a few different Liberty prints - designed, they say, for riding "trains and swings"... and "suitable for jumping in and out of buses and as well as lying flat on the back in the grass". I love Sweden. Pictures: Up The Wooden Hills. Found via Wildflowers Pretty and, originally, Liebmarlene.
